Please can I bring to your attention the following information!

A resident in the Huntingdon area called Police to report that he had received 2 phone calls, on the 12/08/2014 from a male claiming to be from British Gas. The number this male rang from was 0800 048 404. The caller has then asked the informant if he could have permission to access his account. The Informant has refused and terminated the calls.

The informant has then rang British Gas and informed them of what has happened, British Gas has then advised that this call was a scam and advised the resident to contact ACTION FRAUD and the Police.

The 0800 048 404 is not a recognised number.

Thanks of the heads up! That phone number reminds me of the similarly strange phone number I reported to Callercenter.com last week. It was an automated message saying my Mastercard was suspended due to suspicious activities and that I needed to call them immediately to reinstate it. But the problem was, I didn’t have a mastercard. I also know that banks do not use automated messages to inform customers about serious issues on their account. I knew it was a bluff.
