
Great and Little Gidding Parish Council
Great and Little Gidding Parish Council serves a small rural parish of approximately 300 residents and is made up of six councillors. We are seeking a Parish Clerk, who will also act as Responsible Financial Officer (RFO), to support the council in carrying out its statutory duties.
This post would suit an experienced clerk, or a new aspiring clerk.
Training and support will be provided.
The role
- Clerk to the Council and Proper Officer
- Preparation of agendas and minutes
- Advising the council on local government law, procedure and best practice
- Managing correspondence and records
- Managing the Parish Council’s website
- Financial administration including payments, budgeting and audit
- Administrative duties in relation to the Village Hall.
Hours and working arrangements
- Approximately 5-7 hours per week
- A flexible mixture of working at home and in the Village Hall Office (as required)
- Attendance at council meetings in the Village Hall, normally monthly in the evening
- Some additional hours may be required at busy times.
Salary
- In accordance with nationally agreed pay scales
- Exact salary dependent on experience and qualifications
Training and support
- Induction and handover provided
- Ongoing support from the County Association of Local Councils
- Support and funding for training, including ILCA and/or CiLCA, if required
Person specification (summary)
- Good administrative and organisational skills
- Confidence in written communication
- Basic financial skills (or willingness to learn)
- Reasonable proficiency in using computer applications
- Ability to work independently and provide clear, impartial advice
- Previous parish council experience desirable but not essential
