Photo competition results

Message from the organisers:

Firstly a huge thanks to you for submitting a photo or 3: they were excellent and very varied from the humorous to the beautiful. In total we had 75 entries so there was a lot to view. They made the coffee morning a huge success (along with the fantastic cakes) and gave people a lot of enjoyment and difficult decisions on who to give their vote to.

Great Gidding Photo Competition coffee morning Jan 2025

As promised all will be displayed either individually as the 4 winners based on the popular vote or together with others. We had 68 voting slips returned to us:

– 62 of the 75 photos received at least 1 vote

– 31 of the 75 photos were awarded first place by one or more people

The 4 winners

In 1st place

Tess Butler - Church in Spring

In 2nd place

Richard Downer - Cycle Race

In 3rd place

Jack Bolton - Church Spire 2

In 4th place

Paul Crank - St John's in the Snow

Thanks again for your brilliant photos. I know some of them have been converted into Christmas cards in the past and perhaps we should create a calendar. If we decide to do this we will obviously ask permission first.

Visit to the Great Gidding School museum

Visit to the Great Gidding School museum

I received letters from children at Great Gidding School, inviting me to visit and went along last Friday. When I arrived, I was shown around the fabulous Museum that the school children and staff have put together – it lines the walls of one of the classrooms, and is a fantastic record of events that have taken place over the years, and the children that have passed through the gates. There are many photos to be seen both recent and more historic, awards, plans, yearbooks and Headteacher’s log books dating back to 1882.

The children and staff have issued an invitation to all former pupils, parents, staff and village residents to call in, take a look around, share any memories and bring along photographs of schooldays.

The Museum will be open on the following days, between 3.30 and 5.00PM:

Tuesday 4th July/Thursday 6th July/Tuesday 11th July and Thursday 13th July

PLEASE email the school on office@greatgidding.cambs.sch.uk to advise them – they would be delighted to see visitors, but need to ensure that someone is available to accompany you (if you need to phone on 293466, please be aware that school staff may not be available to answer your call).

Six local artists open their studios this weekend 24th & 25th June

Six local artists are opening their studios this weekend (Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th June) as part of Peterborough Open Studios.

Local Peterborough Open Studios posters

Locations

The Open Studios events are held in private homes, studios and public spaces. Each venue displays a red Open Studios banner, and the Peterborough Open Studios brochure map shows all the venues so that you can plan your visits.

It’s worth checking the individual artists’ pages on this Peterborough Open Studios website. Here you will also find information on whether for example the garden will be open, refreshments offered or if there are demonstrations to enjoy.

Visitors are welcome simply to have a look round, to talk to the artists, and to learn about the techniques and materials involved in their work.

Free entry

Entry to each venue is FREE  All the artists will have original work for sale and many will have cards and prints available. Many will also take commissions. There is, of course, absolutely no obligation to buy anything.

Please note that the exhibitors do not generally accept card payments so come prepared with cash or a cheque book.
