A Gidding resident was getting quite excited as he turned the uphill bend towards his home and saw a wonderful array of supercars parked right outside his house. Racking his brains for any competitions he’d entered and forgotten about, his pace quickened.
Alas… it was just some lucky folk enjoying the B660 in their OWN cars (harrumph) who happened perchance to stop outside his house. Anyway, a friendly conversation ensued about the ideal merits of these particular road bends being particularly suitable for Lamborghinis and the like and all went on their merry way (well, almost all of them).
It’s grown over the years and spread into a really super parkland with so many different species to wonder at and be fascinated by. Nice cafe, giftshop, loads of children’s activities – well worth a visit.
Great Gidding’s Catalyst Video Services recently spent a few days videoing the animals and humans at the wonderful zoo and have produced a short promotional video.

We are asking if you would be so kind as to place them on the side of your grey household waste bin which is then placed on the kerbside every fortnight. Rest assured that we are looking at further traffic calming measures for the villages, this is just a very cheap and simple idea to help spread the message. We have chosen the grey bin to get the greatest impact when the bins are out as not everyone uses the others.
The sticker should land through your letter box over the next few days, once every household has been given one there may be some spares if people would like to purchase them for a small donation to the village hall fund.
Thank you for your help.

The swing sound from Peterborough’s well renowned 16 piece band “Fortissimo” rocked us to the rafters on Saturday 9 July. It was all in aid of St Michael’s Church Restoration Fund. As you may have heard, St Michael’s is missing some essential roofing materials and this great achievement will all help towards keeping our beautiful historical church building remain structurally sound.
As is always the case, it would have been impossible without the wide team of generous villagers who helped make the place look so beautiful, provide wonderful things to eat, helped with planning, setting up and cleaning up – and much more besides. Thank you to everyone who took part in so many ways which helped the evening be such a wonderful success.

Gidding Badminton Club has for a number of years played social badminton at the Sawtry Leisure Centre. Over recent weeks active players have been a bit thin on the ground so this is really a call for new members and old members to come back to the fold .
It is social badminton played with every intention of winning but recognising the skill level is sometimes found wanting. If this sounds like your sort of game then come and join in on Tuesday evening’s from 6 pm until 7 pm. There is no club membership fee, just the court hire which floats around £1.50 to £2.50 depending on numbers.
We aim to play mixed doubles which rotate after each game and we play with the modern scoring system whereby you win a point at each serve. This makes for a faster, livelier and usually error strewn game. All good fun!

Looking out of the window today at the grim weather, to cheer me up, I thought about what to pack in my picnic hamper/sandwich box for The Big Lunch – would it be a pork pie or a crunchy salad. Start planning your picnic as The Big Lunch is coming soon – Sunday 12th June on the Recreation Field. Start time is 12.30pm and stay as long as you wish.
As Her Majesty is celebrating her Birthday on that day, she has pencilled the date in her diary and hopes to put in an appearance, maybe Gidding should help her celebrate – bring bunting, banners, hats, streamers to decorate the field.

Read about The Big Lunch in Great Gidding in 2013

The Big Lunch is the UK’s annual get-together for neighbours, an idea from the Eden Project made possible by The Big Lottery Fund. It’s the perfect recipe for having fun with your neighbours, feeding community spirit and helping to build stronger neighbourhoods. People are the key ingredient, with those taking part creating friendlier communities in which they start to share more, from conversation and ideas to skills and resources. The Big Lunch is calling on communities to take part this year and host their own Big Lunch events on Sunday June 12th 2016.
