Huntingdonshire District Council’s Local Plan Parish Council responses to proposed sites

Huntingdonshire District Council's Local Plan Parish Council responses to proposed sites

Meeting held at 7pm on Tuesday 22nd October to formulate responses to the four sites in Great Gidding that have been submitted to the Local Plan – all Parish Councillors and Clerk present.

Comments submitted on the options available under “Sustainability Appraisal with appendices” on Wednesday 23rd October, as follows:

Great Gidding 1: Land adjacent to 52 Main Street, Great Gidding

The Parish Council has considered the appraisal and have nothing further to add.

Great Gidding 2: Land South of Great Gidding village hall, Great Gidding

The Parish Council have considered this appraisal and would wish  to see no more than 5 houses on this site, to retain views through to the surrounding countryside and to enable sufficient access and egress to the properties, this is supported by feedback from respondents to our emerging Neighbourhood Plan.

Great Gidding 3: Land adjacent to Chapel Lane, Great Gidding

The District Council were informed of the error on the paperwork and have acknowledged this.

There is no longer an option to submit a comment on Site 3 via the website and an email has been sent to the Local Plan team, as below:

The Parish Council note that this site is not going forward to the next stage of the Local Plan process. Indications in responses to our emerging Neighbourhood Plan show that any development of this nature is not supported by residents of this Parish.

Great Gidding 4: St Gidding School, Great Gidding

The Parish Council has considered the appraisal and have nothing further to add.

Meeting closed at 21.14

Preparations for new Local Plan for Huntingdonshire are underway

Preparations for new Local Plan for Huntingdonshire are underway

A news item from our local councillor, Tim Alban…

Preparations for the new Local Plan for Huntingdonshire are underway and the District Council are asking residents to help to create it.

A Local Plan is a crucial for the future development of Huntingdonshire, it helps us achieve the goals set out in the Huntingdonshire Futures Place Strategy and Corporate Plan to 2028.

The plan influences policies that help shape housing, infrastructure, and employment while addressing vital issues like climate change, affordability, and flooding. The aim is to achieve sustainable development that meets today’s needs without compromising the needs of future generations.

Last year, the council asked for input and used the feedback to shape our options.

The council are now consulting on three key documents:

  • Further Issues and Options – Sets out options for what may be included in the new local plan. It also asks some questions about what is important to you.
  • Land Availability Assessments – Assesses sites that were put forward by landowners, developers, agents and interested third parties to see if they are potentially suitable or unsuitable for development.
  • Sustainability Appraisals – Assesses our strategies, options, sites and future polices against a series of sustainability objectives

Newsletter from District Councillor Tim Alban

Newsletter from District Councillor Tim Alban

I hope everyone had a Happy Easter and is looking forward to the two Bank Holiday weekends coming up in May.

Most, if not all district councillors might say the same but I really do think the Stilton, Folksworth & Washingley ward is one of the most special in Huntingdonshire.

There is a mix of villages, each with their own charm, as well as their own challenges.  They also have areas and issues in common and it is with that in mind that, along with my fellow ward councillor, Marge Beuttell, I have organised joint meetings for the Chairs and Clerks from the various parish councils and parish meetings.

The most recent two being held in the Milestone Hotel at Norman Cross, where we have received presentations from Huntingdonshire District Council’s Chief Planning Officer and representatives of Cambridgeshire Police.

Most importantly though, these meetings continue to provide an opportunity to meet with each other, to share common problems and exchange ideas; I am pleased that Marge and I have been supported in this by County Councillors Simon Bywater and Ian Gardener.  I am also pleased that the Great & Little Gidding Parish Council has been represented at each of these meetings.

Our next meeting will hopefully be in the autumn, where I intend to invite a representatives from the district council’s Operations team to discuss the changes in the garden waste collections.  Speaking of which…

I have received direct correspondence and seen comments on social media about the changes, most – although not all – have been negative.  Without being too political, I feel it appropriate to confirm that I remain unconvinced that there was a need to introduce a green bin charge and didn’t vote in favour of it;.  That said it was democratically voted for by the majority of elected district councillors and the changes have been made.

The new arrangements, including the offer of up to 10 large bins at a central site in villages such as Great Gidding have prompted further comments (particularly about communication levels) and I have followed these up with council officers.

During the Spring & Summer, anyone, whether they have paid the green bin charge or not, can take their garden bin to be emptied into a freighter (dust cart) at a specified location, on a Saturday morning once a month; the nearest for residents of Great & Little Gidding are Stilton and Sawtry.

Further information, including the schedule and locations can be found via https://www.huntingdonshire.gov.uk/bins-waste/garden-waste-subscription-service/garden-waste-initiatives/freighter-locations-and-schedule/

On Thursday 2nd May there will be elections for the post of Police & Crime Commissioner and one change from the last time we voted is that, anyone voting in person (rather than by post) will need to show Photo ID.  Acceptable forms of ID can be found via https://www.electoralcommission.org.uk/voting-and-elections/voter-id/accepted-forms-photo-id

From the fens in the East to the Huntingdonshire Wolds in the West, and from Little Gidding in the South to the river Nene in the North, the Stilton, Folksworth & Washingley ward is one of the largest in the Huntingdonshire District and I continue to enjoy working with Marge to represent the people who live here.  With such a wide area, Marge focusses on the North and I focus on the South; to contact me, please email me via tim.alban@huntingdonshire.gov.uk or call 07903 518967.

St John’s Church 2024 closure for alterations – further update!

St John’s Church 2024 closure for alterations - further update!

We are delighted that the final part of the alterations to St John’s Church are finally about to happen.

Accessibility:

We are to have a stone ramp leading to the West Door of the church, and a wider step at the front of the church to enable people to turn their wheelchairs properly.  None of this will alter the Georgian front of the church which people know and love.

The Oratory floor will be made level with the church floor, so that there is no step between the two.

There will be a new door on the west wall of the Oratory, so that we will now have two ways to leave the building.

Heating and lighting in the Oratory:

As the panelling in the Oratory will be removed temporarily, the builders will take the opportunity to put some insulation between the panels and the walls.

The Oratory will have electricity, heating and lighting, so that it becomes a useable space for one to one conversations and for Quiet Day leaders.  It will also have resources for those making a pilgrimage to Little Gidding.

There will be no heating or lighting in St John’s Church.  There will be some sockets so that the organ and other small electrical items can be plugged in (all must be PAT tested).  There is no intention to plug in heaters, as these may overload the system with little effect on the warmth of the worshippers.

The building works will start on January 8th and will last until further notice.

The service on Saturday 2nd December to celebrate Nicholas Ferrar will be the last service in the church before the alterations. (the work had originally been planned to start in November, and therefore we moved or cancelled the December services).

The church will be closed to visitors from early January until the completion of the work and the clearing of the site.
