Great Gidding welcomes guests from Denmark for Laura and Mads beautiful wedding

On a gloriously hot and sunny day, the wedding took place in St Michael’s Church on Saturday 18th August of Laura Burgess to Mads Jørgensen.

Photo: Charles Gervais cg-bh@bothhemispheres.com

Laura is currently the Rector of St Botolph without Aldgate in London, whilst Mads is a freelance Media Producer.

The service was conducted by the Reverend Lucy Winkett, a friend and colleague of Laura’s during her five year post at St Paul’s Cathedral.

Music played an important part in the service. The organist was James O’ Donnell (Master of the Music, Westminster Abbey), and the small group of singers were directed by Andrew Carwood (Director of Music, St Paul’s Cathedral).

As the bridegroom hails from Denmark, before the service began the congregation were taught a Danish hymn which was sung during the Signing of the Registers. During the course of the service, anthems by Britten, Walton and Purcell were sung. The bible readings were read by Claire Burnill-Maier and Jørgen Jensen: whilst the prayers were led by Reverend Erik Berggren, Reverend Margarithe Veen and Reverend Suzanne Webb.

As the happy couple left the church, they were greeted by the sound of the bells, a fitting climax to a wonderful and joyous occasion.

Harvest Festival

Harvest Festival

Whilst still a fair way off, please put Sunday 16th September in your diary as that’s the date we shall celebrate the traditional Harvest Festival Thanksgiving.

This year it will be slightly different for two reasons. Firstly the service will take place in the morning at St Michael’s Church starting at 11am. Then after the service we adjourn across the road to Crown Cottage (by kind invitation of Sue Shepherd) for a ‘bring and share’ lunch.

Please watch out for more details.

Date: 2012-09-16
Location: St Michael’s Church and Crown Cottage, Main Street, Great Gidding

New fence for the Recreation Field

Welcome to the relatively new world of Giddings blogging!

It’s pretty similar to the message board that we had as part of the Giddings website a couple of years ago that everyone could contribute to. Some of you will remember that it was great fun – sometimes serious but more often chatty and informative.
That message board was hijacked by undesirable spam so to avoid that problem again, the first time you add your comments to this board you’ll be asked for your e-mail address just so we know you’re a good bug (your e-mail address isn’t published).  Thereafter, you’ll just login with a password of your choosing and you’ll be able to comment, chat, ask opinions, publicise an event, share some news etc. etc.

I’ll kick off with a question – does anyone fancy playing table tennis in the VH one evening?

This is the NEW Giddings website Blog

Hi everyone,

This is the new blog for the Giddings. It’s linked to the Giddings website and it allows you to comment and discuss anything to do with Great Gidding, Little Gidding and Steeple Gidding (and any other local villages – we’re not proud!).

Giddings website

The Giddings website

Why a blog?

A weblog (or blog) allows you to post a topic (an idea, suggestion, notice, complaint etc) and then for anyone else to comment  and add suggestions etc. For instance you may be concerned with the amount of traffic through the village, you might be thinking of hosting an event, or you might be searching for a relative or long lost friend in the village. By posting a topic people will see it and maybe give you some answers or point you in the right direction.

Instructions

If you would like to join the blog please email us and we’ll add you as a subscriber. That way you can add a topic and comment on any items added.

Please feel free to use it.

Bye for now
