ANEAROBIC DIGESTER LUDDINGTON

Having already written to North Northamptonshire Council with my concerns about the main application, I have now written similarly to Cambridgeshire County Council about the highways application they are considering, which relates to Hemington Lodge Road. I have also written in support of the submission made by Great & Little Gidding Parish Council, who have set out some detailed objections.

LOCAL GOVERNMENT RE-ORGANISATION – HUNTINGDONSHIRE TO GO IT ALONE?

Finally, after weeks of considering proposals which I have little or no enthusiam for, I am pleased to report that Huntingdonshire District Council are considering a proposal (known as Option E) which would see the council become a unitary authority in its own right and take on additional responsibilities such as highways, which are currently undertaken by the County Council.

I want to look at the details of this but instinctively, I welcome the possibility of our area not being in a council which is dominated by either Peterborough or Cambridge.

CIVIL PARKING ENFORCEMENT – VILLAGES COUNT TOO!

Updates I have received from Huntingdonshire District Council are that the response from residents to the enforcement of yellow lines, where it has already happened, has been positive.

Whilst I certainly welcome this, Marge Beuttell and I, as well as other councillors representing rural communities are concerned that our areas are yet to benefit.  We have already raised our concerns with officers and in council meetings and will continue to do so.  Huntingdonshire villages count too!

Parking Enforcement issues can be reported via Parking.Enforcement@huntingdonshire.gov.uk

PARKING SCAM ALERT

The District Council has received reports that some residents are being sent text messages claiming they have received a parking Penalty Charge Notice (PCN) from “a local council.”  Please be aware that Huntingdonshire District Council will never contact anyone via text regarding PCNs.

The council believes these messages to be part of a nationwide scam and recommends that anyone receiving such a text, does not click on any links or provide any personal information and deletes it immediately.

LOCAL GOVERNMENT REORGANISATION

As has already been mentioned, three options for reforming the major local councils in Cambridgeshire have recently been announced.

Further details are available on the Huntingdonshire District Council website www.huntingdonshire.gov.uk but in short, each option would see either a merger of Huntingdonshire with Fenland and Peterborough, or a merger of Huntingdonshire with Fenland, East Cambs and Peterborough or a merger of Huntingdonshire with Cambridge and South Cambridgeshire; all the options will include an incorporation of the services currently carried out by Cambridgeshire County Council.

The ultimate decision will be taken by Central Government, who started this whole process off but please do take the opportunity to participate in the survey.

SAWTRY SWIMMING POOL

Sawtry Swimming Pool

Having spoken in support of the pool as a resource for the villages in our area, I was delighted when funding was secured to reopen it.  The current target for reopening is Spring 2026 but this may be subject to change as work progresses.

ANEROBIC DIGESTER APPLICATION IN LUDDINGTON

Further to my article in March this year, the councillor in North Northants I was liaising with is no longer a council member so I have written to two others who represent Luddington to ask them for an update on what is happending with this application.  I will submit provide further information once it becomes available.

WORKING TOGETHER

My fellow ward District Councillor, Marge Beuttell and I believe in collaborative working.  As well as working closely with County Councillor Ian Gardener, we continue to set up meetings for local Parish Councils, where common issues and hopefully, resolutions to issues can be shared.  We are currently working to arrange the next meeting date, where we hope to invite a County Council Highways Officer.

Floods

Although not primarily a District Council matter, I have again worked played my part in trying to tackle the immediate and medium term issues which were experienced in the ward – especially around Christmas.

I am grateful for the feedback I received which I used as part of my report to the District Council’s Flooding Task & Finish Group. Whilst the Giddings might not have been hit as badly as the towns and villages in Huntingdonshire, especially those adjacent to the River Ouse, I am determined to let the council know that the north of the distict also has flooding issues which continue to need attention.

Potholes

Again not a District Council issue but one I am contacted about and one where I do lobby the County Council.  Please report these via the County Council website.

Parking

I am a member of the Panel which scrutinised the District Council’s proposed application to take over some elements of parking enforcement in Huntingdonshire.  Along with all the other councillors on the panel I voted in favour of this measure which, if approved will allow the District Council to issue Civil Enforcement Notices to drivers who park their vehicles on double yellow lines.

Council Tax

This year, although the overall Council Tax we pay will go up, following a cross party (and nearly unanimous) vote for a 0% increase, the amount levied by the District Council won’t.

And finally…

Spring is my favourite time of year, with the lighter and warmer days (well sometimes) and the hope of the brighter times to come.  This year, with the impressive vacination programme, the road map to the end of lock down and the continued contribution made by local support groups, local councils, as well as individual residents, those hoped for brighter times seem that much closer.

With best wishes for a Happy Easter.

From Tim Alban, District Councillor for Stilton, Folksworth & Washingley Ward

A message and information from Tim Alban, District Councillor for Stilton, Folksworth & Washingley Ward

“Life has changed so much in the last few weeks and I have been hugely impressed by the prompt responses from local councils, organisations (some of which didn’t exist until recently) and individual people who are doing so much to help others, not just in Great & Little Gidding but further afield.

Open for business
Huntingdonshire District Council offices may be closed to visitors but the work of the council very much carries on, with many of the staff who usually work there now working from home.  The Customer Service Centre is available during office hours on 01480 388388; calls outside of this time are directed towards the Out of Hours service.

Website details & apply to defer part of Council Tax
The council has website dedicated to Corona Virus questions www.wearehuntingdonshire.org which offers all kinds of information including how to ask for help and how to volunteer; it also includes details of how to apply to defer the District Council’s part of the council tax for April and May.

For more general enquiries please visit the District Council’s main site www.huntingdonshire.gov.uk

Household Bins
Huntingdonshire District Council is still operating a full household refuse collection service and bins should be left out as normal.  Extra re-cycling may be left in clear plastic bags with re-cycling bins, on the appropriate day.

Bulky Waste
Extra household rubbish and garden rubbish can not be added to regular collections but the council does still offer a bulky waste collection service; the details of what can and can’t be collected, along with the fees charged are available via the previously mentioned phone number and web link.

Bonfire
The Government, District Council and Cambridgeshire Fire Service are all advising against having bonfires at the moment; as well as being potentially causing problems for anyone battling the Covid-19 Corona Virus, the smoke is an irritant for those already dealing with other health issues.

Where to put a mast?
I have continued to work with the Parish Council and local residents to try and resolve the issue of a site for the proposed data mast, including liaising with Elton Parish Council, who have faced a similar issue in their village.

Treatment & Recovery
I started treatment for cancer last September which I am pleased to report was successful – I was told that no further treatment was needed just before the country went into lock-down.  My recovery continues to go well however I am in the severe risk Covid-19 category and unable to leave home so please contact me by phone or email.
