The first subject areas of this months report have been featured before but there are new developments (if you’ll pardon the pun).

Local government re-organisation
At a special Full Council meeting of Huntingdonshire District Council, all 52 members had the opportunity to vote for any of the 5 options on offer or to abstain.
During the debate I spoke in favour of Option E, which would create a single unitary council for Huntingdonshire based on the current District Council boundaries, with the new council taking on the responsibilities of the County Council along with those of the District Council
Myself and Marge Beuttell, along with 34 other councillors (enough for a clear majority) voted in favour Option E, which was passed to the council’s cabinet, who also voted for Option E. Huntingdonshire’s proposals were submitted, along with those of neighbouring councils, to the government who will make the final decision, which should be announced this summer.
Of the other councillors, 2 were absent, 7 voted for Option C (which would put Huntingdonshire in a unitary council with Cambridge City and South Cambs – despite neither of them voting for this option) and 7 (members of the council’s cabinet) abstained. I was relieved to see that no councillors voted for Option D, which would have split Huntingdonshire up and put our part of it into a Greater Peterborough Council. How central government sees all this remains to be seen.
Flooding – be prepared
Flooding can be an issue in our area – even for those of us who don’t live near a river and I am pleased to have been alerted to this page on the County Council website; it’s worth taking a look.
Christmas countdown
Bin hangers showing revised refuse collection dates, which I have already shared on social media, should now have been attached to wheelie bins; these can also be checked on www.hutingdonshire.gov.uk
As usual, Huntingdonshire District Council’s Out of Hours team will be working over Christmas and New Year. To contact them, please call 01480 434167.
Keeping in touch
Although I am active on Facebook, the best way to contact me is email or phone rather than messenger – my contact details are below.
Thanks to everyone who has contacted me whether it be with individual issues or wider community concerns, as I mention every now and again, trying to help residents and communities in this particular part of Huntingdonshire remains my favourite part of being a District Councillor.
And finally…
On behalf of my fellow ward councillor, Marge Beuttell and I, I would like to wish everyone a Happy Christmas and New Year.
Tim Alban
