On Saturday the 29th September we will have a community apple crushing, pulping, squeezing, pressing event using the community pulper and press. Collect your apples and rinse your receptacles. Whether its just juice or cider, the container you use does need sterilising. If you are a serial wine or beer maker then you will know the drill.
Quantity of apples, how long is a piece of string. You need lots, a washing basket full or two good bucket fulls to get any quantity. If we get a good crowd, 10 or so then quartering apples, pulping then bagging them up for the press becomes an easy flowing task.
Location – in one of the sheds at Manor Site Farm – it then becomes a weather resistant event.
Refreshments provided but happy to receive extras.
Time – 9am so that’ll be 10am Gidding central time.

We have heard the sad news of the death of Bernard Foster. Known as “Bocky” to most people in the village, he worked in Trolove’s butcher’s shop in Main Street for many years. Our thoughts and prayers are with Betty and the family at this time.
There will be a Service of Thanksgiving for his life on Monday 12th June at 12 noon in St Michael’s Church.
Michael Keck
We welcome back Divers Voyces with their Music Director, Jeremy Jepson, to lead the music at this service.
The Introit will be by Anton Bruckner (Locus isti), and the canticles sung to settings by the 16th century Spanish composer Christòbel de Morales and Gustav Holst. As Ascension Day falls in the following week, the anthem will be Ascendit Deus by the Elizabethan composer, Peter Phillips.
During the service the latest restoration work on the organ will be dedicated in memory of Lois Jordan. We are delighted that Paul Herring (Lois’s son) has kindly agreed to play the organ for this service.
This will be the Revd Mary Jepp’s final service before her departure to Scotland. After the service there will be refreshments, giving an opportunity to say farewell to Mary.
Service starts at 6pm.

The Big Lunch is the UK’s annual one day get-together for neighbours. The eighth annual Big Lunch will happen on Sunday 12th June 2016.
Organiser Julie Trolve says
Looking out of the window today at the grim weather, to cheer me up, I thought about what to pack in my picnic hamper/sandwich box for The Big Lunch – would it be a pork pie or a crunchy salad. Start planning your picnic as The Big Lunch is coming soon – Sunday 12th June on the Recreation Field. Start time is 12.30pm and stay as long as you wish.
As Her Majesty is celebrating her Birthday on that day, she has pencilled the date in her diary and hopes to put in an appearance, maybe Gidding should help her celebrate – bring bunting, banners, hats, streamers to decorate the field.

What is The Big Lunch?
The Big Lunch is the UK’s annual get-together for neighbours, an idea from the Eden Project made possible by The Big Lottery Fund. It’s the perfect recipe for having fun with your neighbours, feeding community spirit and helping to build stronger neighbourhoods. People are the key ingredient, with those taking part creating friendlier communities in which they start to share more, from conversation and ideas to skills and resources. The Big Lunch is calling on communities to take part this year and host their own Big Lunch events on Sunday June 12th 2016.
Mark your diary! Sunday 12th June on the Recreation Field from 12.30pm.
