On a gloriously hot and sunny day, the wedding took place in St Michael’s Church on Saturday 18th August of Laura Burgess to Mads Jørgensen.

Laura is currently the Rector of St Botolph without Aldgate in London, whilst Mads is a freelance Media Producer.
The service was conducted by the Reverend Lucy Winkett, a friend and colleague of Laura’s during her five year post at St Paul’s Cathedral.
Music played an important part in the service. The organist was James O’ Donnell (Master of the Music, Westminster Abbey), and the small group of singers were directed by Andrew Carwood (Director of Music, St Paul’s Cathedral).
As the bridegroom hails from Denmark, before the service began the congregation were taught a Danish hymn which was sung during the Signing of the Registers. During the course of the service, anthems by Britten, Walton and Purcell were sung. The bible readings were read by Claire Burnill-Maier and Jørgen Jensen: whilst the prayers were led by Reverend Erik Berggren, Reverend Margarithe Veen and Reverend Suzanne Webb.
As the happy couple left the church, they were greeted by the sound of the bells, a fitting climax to a wonderful and joyous occasion.
One of our aircraft is missing……………
Local history researcher, Chris Hughes, will give a talk and slide show on RAF Molesworth, the WWII activities and stories of some of the planes that were stationed there, and bring us to date with the role of the Base in mote recent years.
Join us on Wednesday 19th September, 7.30PM start
at Great Giddding Village Hall
Free Entry (donations to Gidding History Grouo)
Tea, coffee and biscuits will be available.
Everyone is welcome and Chris would love to hear personal stories and experiences connected to RAF Molesworth and other local bases, and to see any” finds” that people may have kept as souvenirs from the crash sites.
This year our Harvest Festival arrangements are different. Firstly, the service which will be an informal All Age Family Service, takes place in the morning, starting at 11 am. Secondly after the service, we continue our celebrations as we move across to Crown Cottage (by kind invitation of Sue Shepherd) and enjoy a Harvest Lunch together.
So may I invite you to come and join us. The service will include all the favourite harvest hymns as well as offering an opportunity to give thanks for the wonder of God’s creation and the food we enjoy.
You are welcome to attend both Service and the Lunch – alternatively you might like to come to one or other of the events and this is also fine!
Times:
Harvest Family Service – 11 am
Lunch in the Garden at Crown Cottage – 12.15 pm
Finally, it would help with the catering arrangements if you could contact either Lois Jordan (293178) or Mary Read (293657) and let them know if you are coming to the lunch.
I look forward to seeing you.
Mary Jepp
There were two Baptisms in St Michael’s Church in July, welcoming two young people into the Christian community in Great Gidding.
Firstly on Sunday 8th July, the baptism of Alice Helen Nunns took place. Mum and Dad, Charlotte and Michael Nunns, moved into Ludington Road last August. The godparents were Laura and Chris Tate of Molesworth.
A fortnight later on Sunday 22nd July, the baptism offered the opportunity of welcoming back someone who had grown up in the village. Nicolas Tebbutt, (son of Vivian & Bill Tebutt of Main Street) and his partner Mel, brought daughter Amelie Una to St Michael’s Church to be christened.
The Reverend Mary Jepp officiated on both occasions.

This year it will be slightly different for two reasons. Firstly the service will take place in the morning at St Michael’s Church starting at 11am. Then after the service we adjourn across the road to Crown Cottage (by kind invitation of Sue Shepherd) for a ‘bring and share’ lunch.
Please watch out for more details.

Great Gidding School is holding its Summer Fete on Saturday 7th July from 12pm onwards. There will be fun things to see and do, as well as lots of food to eat. Please drop by the school if you get a chance and it isn’t raining too hard!
Welcome to The Great Gidding Close up Quiz.
If you lived in the village at the time of the Golden Jubilee celebration in 2002 you will recall that we offered a paper based quiz that asked you to identify close up photographs of certain locations around the Parish of Great Gidding. This is an updated version to accommodate the computer and smart phone generation. You may be able to guess some locations from the comfort of your seat in front of the computer but a walk round the village will nail the difficult locations and keep your eyes open when travelling out towards the parish boundaries. All the photographs are taken from public areas. Google Street View may help in some cases.
How to enter – Identify where or what the photograph is, either by house number or descriptive location. The closer the better. When you have identified as many locations as you can fill in the comments box at the foot of this page using a 1,2,3 order and send it in.
The quiz will run until 1pm on Saturday the 23rd June. The winner will be announced at the Mid Summer Picnic on the following day. A wider view photograph will also be posted with location text after this date.
A modest prize will be awarded to the most accurate entry.
Good luck

Sunday June 24th started off in much the same vein as nearly all the previous days of the month, wet. The forecast was positive so the message went out that the picnic was on.
No sooner had electronic mail delivered the good news, the heavens opened and it chucked it down. Luckily by picnic time the sun had decided to shine. So the annual trudge to the Jubilee Wood with food and seating paid off. A grand gathering of villagers sitting in the sunshine getting trench foot but enjoying the conversation and the snail racing. Next year 2013 will be the 10th year of planting the Jubilee Wood so a special picnic is called for so I propose a 1pm start on Sunday June 23rd. The long term weather forecast is positive although it might rain.
